Sometimes the Best Pieces Come in the Early Hours.

I thought the piano was very pretty. Once the synth came in, I was very intrigued by the piece. The only beef I have with the song really is the wavering voice that duets with the piano at the beginning; it sounded a little strange to me. But it fit in well with the rest of the piece, so I won't mark you down for that.
Good job ^_^

Thanks alot! :D

Very Imaginative!

I love that you take a song that is generally fast paced and start it out soft and slow, like a storm normally begins. I did notice a few wrong notes with your ocarina, but it kind of gives it a real feel to me, and didn't bother me TOO much. I love the way you edited the bass line of the song; it had such a different feel to it--almost a Lamentation.

And then it picked up very gently, and I loved that there was not a set tempo you stuck to. It just made the expereince so much better for me.

This was awesome.
(1 point down for the wrong notes--sorry!)

Tysuru responds:

and you ask why I'm self conscious about the ocarina haha

just kidding.
Thank you, I have a tendency for speeding while getting excited. As most people do. But it ended up fitting nicely haha.

thank you =]

Shades of Serenity

I've never actually played MM, but I did hear the sound clip when I played Twilight Princess.
This is gorgeous. You're too hard on yourself with the Ocarina comment. That's actually you playing? the only thing I think would've made this better is if you brought the Ocarina part out a little more.

But very nicely done.

Tysuru responds:

MM and OoT are my favorite by far.

and The ocarina is just a little outta place with this, therefore I hid it haha.
and thank you =]

really thank you

Liked the Feel; Just a thought...

I liked the beat on this. I would've loved a different choice of the main instrument. Something a little different from what they used in the actual game song. But that's just what I look for in remixes--a familiar melody with it's own twist.

You'll notice I'm not doing my normal review format, but that's because I'm away from my home computer with all the criteria ^_^
So sorry it's not as IN DEPTH as I normally do.
But this was good.
Keep it up!

Dachampster responds:

Sh1t, you have criteria?!

Whoa.

Well, if you read this then check out my arcade kollab and mario.

Instrument Blend:
I thought the background beats added with the synth voices really gave it that "clubbin" feel. I could see myself dancing to this...twas very catchy

Accuracy:
The times you used the melody it was ALMOST correct. There were a few notes off, but I couldn't tell if you did that because you thought it sounded better like that or what the deal was, so I won't take points off; the different notes didn't make the piece sound wrong and that's all that really counts in the end.

Clear Concept:
There wasn't much to this one! How come it's so short? I implore you to complete it.

Originality:
We've all seen techno remixes of this song on the portal. Heck, everyone here probably knows ParagonX9's version ^_^ But even with so many floating around out there, this one had a feel to it I haven't experienced yet.

Other Comments:
Make it longer.
Then it's a 10

Instrument Blend:
I really liked the piano. Not too big of a fan of the drums; they felt wrong for such a lucid piano.

Accuracy:
Loved the bass chords on the piano. They kept the piece in tact yet added subtle change.

Originality:
This was pretty good. I'm getting a feel of the artist through this. I would love to hear an extension of this piece to see what else you can do with it.

Other Comments:
My favorite was obviously the piano. I would've liked to hear softer drums, maybe even a tambourine. What was there didn't quite fit for me. But this was still really awesome ^_^

Heard This Before

I disagree with below; this song deserves reverb. Just like you said, it's set in an ice chamber. The sound would be bouncing around like crazy ^_^

Instrument Blend:
Some of the instrument levels were too much. Rule #1: The melody should always be the loudest part in a song. I felt sometimes the melody sank behind the other voices. Also the brass section felt awkward with the other synth voices.

Accuracy:
With all the dissonances, I am proud of your transcription of this song. It's hard to pull all those notes out accurately, and you did a very good job.

Clear Concept:
I can see you were remixing this. But I feel like this is just a do-over

which leads me to

Originality:
Not a lot of people make the choice of remixing this song, so there's originality in that. But there weren't many of YOUR choices in this song. It was the melody, with similar voices doing the background. I would've liked more personality to this.

Other Comments:
You've got a good ear for the songs. But I challenge your creative process and dare you to take it to the next step by adding twists and changes, that make sense in the piece of course. I have a bias towards songs that are a little tweaked from their originals, but that's because that's what a newgrounds remix is to me: the original with a hint of personal flare.
I dare you to wow me next time ^_^

Dachampster responds:

Finally, a useful review. Yeah, I'll get working on it. I always have a tough time with volume control. I have tons of remixes here, so check those out while I whip up something better. I do have limited resources, I only have one GarageBand expansion pack.
Did I mention that I made this last december?

Ah, nevermind. I have the skills now, so I'll attempt something else.

Instrument Blend:
I did not care for your instrument choice on this one at all. The smooth notes felt out of place and the beginning instrument with the note dips felt goofy and unwarranted.

Accuracy:
You did get the melody right, so there are points on that.

Clear Concept:
I don't know... This piece had some interesting choices. The vinyl scratches were oddly placed, and the change in voices was sporadic.

Originality:
Not very many people mix this song cause it's almost a little boring; I have to say your remix didn't exactly make me stand from my seat. There were hints of your style in this, but the drum line droned on and lulled me into a bored daze.

Other Comments:
This sounds harsh I know. And the melody is leaves so little to work with that it's difficult to create anything from this song. But I felt there was no inspiration behind this, and all we got was a mundane remake.
Sorry.
No dice this time.

propfit responds:

meh no effort was spent on it so it didnt realy deserve any better

simplicity is good in this case

Instrument Blend:
The plain piano went surprisingly well with your synthesized melody line. And I really enjoyed the beats chosen, although the drum levels probably could've been brought down a tad.

Accuracy:
Great job on getting the notes right! of course everyone knows this melody, so I would've had to come in there and throw down if you made an unintentional mistake to this song.

Clear Concept:
This was definitely a re-make of this song, and nothing felt out of place or "thrown in there." So props on that.

Originality:
This had it's own perky feel to it. I would've liked to hear a little more risk taking with harmonies and such.

Other Comments:
I'll download this ^_^ It makes me smile.

disappointed

the artist who did this was Imogen Heap.

Instrument Blend:
There was just the one voice, so it obviously blended with itself ;)

Accuracy:
Not very well translated. I suggest you listen again and try again. There were key chords that make this song powerful missing from your rendition.

Clear Concept:
I guess you did set out to do what you wanted; make a piano version of the song.

Originality:
There wasn't much to draw the listener in. It felt underdeveloped.

Other Comments:
I'm not trying to bring you down, but I'm also not gonna sugar-coat this; maybe it's just because I'm very familiar with the original of this song, but I didn't care for this. For one thing, there were two sections completely missing, which I understand could be an artists choice, but at the same time your accuracy on the chords was disappointing.

I will give you this; that song is DAMN hard to listen to by ear and transcribe. But even taking that into consideration, I just can't get into this one.

studio-nightbird responds:

A Helpful review. We'll this was made for training as Im planning on interacting the Vocal of this song with and Orchestral mix. This is the first song in AGES to get negative feed back though xD.

For the Love of All Things VG Music; If you have a request, PM me! I'll check it out and get back to you! Thanks for all your support! <3
