A Very Accurate Recreation

I don't really know much about this game, so I went and listened to the original first; after doing so, I then listened to your remix. Here are my thoughts:
I think this is a great recreation. You took the basics of the song and laid down the melody very accurately. Changing up the instruments was also an interesting touch, and this song does have a very "Winter Wonderland" feel to it, which is--of course--the main theme of the song. So very well done.

But I still want to hear more! I'd love to hear some of your own inspiration in a piece. I would not call this a remix myself, because it still lacks a good feel for the artist-- that's you. Having said that, however, it is a very well constructed piece, and I can tell your skills as a MIDI artist are growing.

Well done ^_^

You know, after reading your review, I've been thinking about what really makes a remix, and I don't think any of my work here fits that. They're all just recreations with added twists.

Hey John!

It's Alisa from NU Choir!
What MIDI program are you using?
Is this an original?
The melody line is pretty good if this is an original. Although if it's meant to be sung; I would slow down the BPM.
If not, then I'm completely off base on this :)

JLSthe2nd responds:

Hey Alisa!

The melody is actually Greensleeves, so you're right on that. But everything else is stuff I've done to expand upon it. The MIDI program I use is Anvil. I know it's not the best, but I got it free. As a poor college student, it'll work for now.
Thanks for the input :)

Hey Not too Shabby

This kind of has a Resident Evil "Typewriter Room" feel to it to me. I like it. I'm just not too big of a fan of the instrument quality. To me the fading instruments at the beginning have an off pitch cool feel to them, but the main instruments ( I can't tell if they're horns or voices :S ) sound just too fake.
And the ending dissonances were a little weird... sometimes adding some minor "eerie" chords can bring a new element to a piece as long as they still make sense in the piece. And I'm not quite sure they do. You should consider reworking the end.

This is a great start of an original piece. I'd love to hear it with a better quality program if you ever have a chance.
Keep up all the great work.

poolplayermaster responds:

thanks for the review, check out m other new remix as well the castlevania one

boss

I honestly think that the you could've done this without the soft beginning. It sounded ok for the first half, but I didn't get super excited till the drums came in. Seriously though, major props. I hate this song in the game, but I love your version ^_^

smilingpig67 responds:

Hahaha thanks!

It's Ok

The drum beats behind it sound a little funny. And the piece was too slow for the genre.
But it did have kind of a new modern feel to it. So I give you points for that.

SonicJ responds:

Thanks for the review ~
Although, I don't understand exactly how the drums sounded funny, everything came the way I wanted it. Each sound was intentional. Also, the original BPM is so slow, I figured to stay in that range for the best option. At the very least, you under stood my want to make it modern, Ty!

Aww Almost!

The opening was pretty epic...
and then it didn't follow through! :(
It was very good--the technical parts of it like picking apart the notes accurately and blending them with effects was well done. But the melody line just wasn't very "battle" like. The background was perfect, but the melody line needed more "umph!"

Wolfen150 responds:

I got sick of it. I'll redo it later, I promise.

Meh. Not My Thing.

The bass line is way to low; it got down so low you could barely hear the pitch of the note; I suggest transposing it up. I like the violin, but I didn't feel that the instruments really complimented each other.
You were pretty accurate on your melody line, but I don't necessarily care for the artistic choices myself.

oOkorobugOo responds:

Really... maybe I should change it then XD ^^;
I may repost it, maybe not, well, if not I'll probably just put up a second version and most definately do something with the baseline.

Thanks for the input ^^

Not Usually a Fan of Instrumentals, but Good Job!

I liked the flute and guitar combo with the strings in the background; it was new, yet it kept that "Gerudo" feel to it. Sometimes people try to do too much with this song, and I think this was just about right on the money.

Lose the chorused claps (the claps that just sound like pair of hands are ok). They sound superficial and it ruins the nice feel the song has. If you want to put another beat in there to replace the claps, I'd suggest a really heavy drum, like a timpani or something.

But this was really pretty good.

ABalancedBreakfast responds:

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

I don't really think the harder claps go with the music at all either, but the sound came on the drum loop I used, which is only meant to be a placeholder until I mixed my own.

Or did you mean the claps which are introduced in the drum break? Cause I kinda like that rhythm.... =)

Not Impressed

You should go over this piece and lower the master volume; the lead melody makes the speakers crackle, and it's such a small thing to fix--but it makes a huge difference.
There wasn't really a whole lot of wow factor for me in this one. It's great that you were able to transcribe the melody and harmonies correctly, but I come onto newgrounds to hear something different and new, and this was just another re-do of the song.
Points for a good ear, but I didn't care for the song.

Eperiod responds:

The problem is that I didn't save the project because when I made this, I only had a demo version of FL Studio, so i can't fix it. As for "this isn't a remix" yes, I know that. You know how many remixes of this song there are? One good one that I can think of. I can't compete with BlueScreenRemix's song, not in my life! XD

No No No

I would highly suggest listening to the song again before remixing it.

I know some people like to change the melody up a bit, but this song is so inaccurate it's hard to listen to. The melodies don't harmonize at all. it doesn't make sense; there's flats in places where there shouldn't be--and that's not just in comparison to the original; musically it doesn't add up.

I cannot give this a single star; I'm sorry.

Blablaman responds:

Hmm, I think you are right.. Well thank you for your review, that's all i needed. ^^
